Villa d’Este: BMW M8 models displayed in BMW Individual Colors

The 2021 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Esta has already concluded, ending Sunday, October 3. It was a short but incredibly interesting and luxurious event, one in which we saw some of the most breathtaking cars in the world. While the BMW M8 isn’t even close to being in the same realm as cars like the McLaren F1 or Rolls-Royce Boat Tail, Villa d’Este was a chance for BMW to show off some of its Individual colors for the M8.

Each iteration of the BMW M8 was on hand on Lake Como; the M8 Coupe, M8 Convertible, and M8 Gran Coue. The latter of which is probably the one most deserving of being on display at Villa d’Este, being that it’s easily the best looking of the three and the most interesting. The M8 Gran Coupe in this photo gallery was wearing a lovely Individual shade of Voodoo Blue, which fit the Lake Como setting perfectly.

As for the BMW M8 Coupe, it seems to be wearing Nardo Grey, which is ironically an Audi color. It looks great, though, and is one of BMW’s most aggressive looking cars.

Lastly, the BMW M8 Convertible, which is probably the most fun of the M8s to drive, due to its open-top element adding to the driving experience. As for its purple color, it was called Midnight Purple and it looked fantastic. BMW is killing it with purples, lately.

The BMW M8 isn’t really an uber-special car and it’s not one that would typically stand out at an event like Villa d’Este but it’s still a great looking, extremely high performing GT car that can be offered in some very interesting colors. If you’re going to be spending the six-figures on one anyway, why not go for one of these fantastic Individual colors to make yours even more special.

VIDEO: Listen to the E31 BMW M8 Prototype Start and Rev

If you’re a massive BMW enthusiast, you know the story of the BMW M8 Prototype (if not, click these blue words). It’s a great story but one with a sad ending because the original M8 never made it to production, despite being impossibly cool. Instead, the prototype sat in BMW’s collection for over thirty years and only saw the light of day a few years ago. So the fact that BMW Classic displayed it in this video and actually started it up is incredible.

In this video, we get to learn about the BMW M8 Prototype’s incredible naturally-aspirated V12 engine. Not only is it beautiful to look at, with its carbon fiber intake manifold (!) but it’s also a technically fascinating engine as well. Modifying the 850CSi’s V12 for more power and performance as a challenge but not as much of a challenge as getting the entire package to work properly.

However, once it starts up, you realize it was all worth it. This video lets you actually hear the M8 Prototype start and rev, which is likely the first time you’ve ever heard it. BMW hasn’t really showed it off much, never mind actually start it up.

I’m fortunate to have had the chance to actually get up close and personal with the E31 BMW M8 Prototype. During a BMW even in Palm Springs, California, BMW had a closed-door room filled with all sorts of special cars at the time and one of them was the E31 M8. I was positively giddy just being in its space, as I had loved it ever since I learned about it. Thankfully, someone at BMW was gracious enough to actually let me sit in it and it was wonderful.

I can still remember sitting in the seat, thinking about how few people had actually done so and trying to capture just how truly rare and special it was. After hearing the V12 bark to life in this video, those feelings came back.

Video: Listen to an Akrapovic-fitted BMW M8 on the dyno

A lot has been said about the BMW M8 models ever since they were first introduced. From ‘not worthy of the badge’ to ‘being too expensive’, we’ve heard them all. But the truth is that the regular M8 and Competition models are worthy of the supercar title. At least in a straight line. They also have the best sound in the BMW line-up right now and are the fastest cars you can buy with a blue and white roundel on the hood.

We’ve seen these cars hit under the three second mark for the benchmark 0-60 mph acceleration. Get them tuned and you’re bound to drop under that mark by some serious margin. We’ve already seen 700 HP M8 models and some have already hit the 800 HP mark. The one in the video below has been heavily modified and now has 820 HP and 693 lb-ft of torque to show for it. Those upgrades include an Akrapovic titanium exhaust.

BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe F93 featured in Sonic Speed Blue 20 830x554BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe F93 featured in Sonic Speed Blue 20 830x554

That’s the exhaust we showed you a while back, when it was originally launched. It looks like it didn’t take long to find its way on to a car and what a project this is. The best part about this whole clip is that we get to hear that exhaust at work, throughout the entire rev range and it is glorious. This is definitely one of the best sounding BMWs to be launched in recent years and it’s actually quite amazing how different it sounds compared to the S63 found on the F10 M5, for example.

The pops and bangs on overrun are something to behold and it’s not just the sound that impresses, but also the design, Akrapovic being known for making some truly special designs on its exhaust systems. It would look even better from underneath, where that matte titanium finish makes you not think about the price you paid for it for a while.

BMWBLOG Podcast Episode 36: BMW M3 Touring, Lucid Air and More

It’s that time again and we apologize about the delay. It’s BMWBLOG Podcast time and that means you’re graced with the voice of a man who’s barely holding his sanity together, talk to you about cars for a bit. I ride solo again in this latest episode but we do have more guests planned for the future.

In this week’s episode, I discuss some topics that really fascinate me and it all has to start with the BMW M3 Touring. Fans of the Bavarian brand have been begging for an M3 Touring for decades, to no avail. Now, though, the suits in Munich have finally green-lit the M3 Touring and it’s finally going to get made. Unfortunately for us ‘Mericans, we won’t be getting it. Which is frustrating and in this episode, much like a Festivus family gathering, I air my grievances.

BMW M3 Touring photoshop 01 830x467BMW M3 Touring photoshop 01 830x467

I also talk about the potential BMW M8 CSL that’s been rumored to be in the works. There’s been a mysterious 8 Series test mule running around, wearing some curious exterior features that don’t seem to be necessary on a traditional 8 Series. So there are rumors of a mid-engine prototype, a plug-in hybrid powertrain or a lightweight stripped-out M8 CSL swirling around. Those are also discussed.

After the M8 CSL, I talk about the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (I know, booooooo). As much as many BMW fans might not want to admit it, the S-Class has always been the king of the luxury car segment and this one seems to set the luxury benchmark in the stratosphere. So beating this new Big Benz is going to be a tall task for every luxury manufacturer and BMW is a part of that.

Lastly, though, I talk about the Lucid Air, a car I’m personally fascinated with. After seeing the press release on the upcoming air, every car company on Earth, Tesla included, should be very worried about their own offerings. The Air seems to be far more advanced than every other electric car in existence and a part of the reason why is that Lucid has done its homework. It’s been developing batteries for Formula E cars for the past couple of years and we all know that the best advancements in automotive tech come from motorsport.

So have a listen; whether it be in your car on a long trip or just in the morning with a cup of coffee, and either nod in agreement like that gif of Jack Nicholson or spit your coffee out and scream at me. Either way, I hope you enjoy.

You can expect a podcast episode from us each week and you can find each episode almost anywhere you can find podcasts. So AppleGoogleSpotifyStitcher and Radiopublic

VIDEO: Watch the Manhart BMW M8 Coupe Nearly Break 200 mph

2019 bmw 8 series coupe m850i by manhart

Manhart is famous for building some of the most powerful and shockingly fast BMWs on the market. One of its most recent projects is the MH8 800, which is a BMW M8 Coupe that’s been tuned to a whopping 823 horsepower and 774 lb-ft of torque. It also gets some visual upgrades, such as a ton of carbon fiber aero and a black/gold paint job. In this new video, Shmee150 takes the Manhart-tuned BMW M8 on the unrestricted Autobahn to see just how fast it is. (We don’t own the video but see it at Motor1]

According to Manhart, the MH8 800 is capable of 0-60 mph in just 2.6 seconds, which is only a few tenths off of what the standard BMW M8 can do but, honestly, it’s really difficult to coax more performance out of any car. Where it really shows its might, though, is after 100 mph. In this video, Shmee gets the tuned BMW M8 to a seriously fast 190 mph and it seems like it can keep pulling from there. Getting there is shockingly easy as well, as the MH8 800 can nail 155 mph, which is normally a car’s top speed limit, it alarming speed.

2019 bmw 8 series coupe m850i by manhart2 830x467

2019 bmw 8 series coupe m850i by manhart2 830x467

Potentially even more impressive is the way that the Manhard MH8 800 handles that speed. Its suspension and chassis tuning are so smooth that blasting along at nearly 200 mph is almost easy. Though, maybe that’s actually not all that surprising. I recently just tested the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe and even the stock car can handle triple digit speeds with ease. The M8’s chassis is just so stable and secure that triple-digit speeds are a breeze.

To be perfectly honest, anyone that’s driven any BMW M8 and thought “Ya know what this car needs? More power.” needs to be fitted for a straitjacket. The regular M8 accelerates like it’s been launched from a catapult, so adding even more power seems like lunacy to me. Still, if you do go for more power, you know Manhart can seriously provide it.

Video: Is BMW Testing an M8 CS Convertible on the Nurburgring?

Summer is coming up soon in Germany and the Nurburgring will become a perfect track for all sorts of tests. Especially since the unpredictable weather of the Eiffel Mountains will stop surprising everyone. This is now the perfect time to start testing again and BMW along with other manufacturers are making the most of it.

As you’re about to see, all sorts of cars are being tested on the Green Hell right now, including a suspicious M8 Convertible in full camo.

The BMW M8 was unveiled last year and has been on sale in all body types for quite some time. Therefore, seeing one in full camo on the Ring is a rather peculiar appearance.

As you’d suspect, such a presence on the track wouldn’t go unnoticed and our trusty friends with cameras positioned around the famous German track have caught up with it. The question that lingers though is: what exactly are we looking at? What is BMW testing?

2020 BMW M8 Competition Coupe Frozen Marina Blue 101 830x553

One possibility could be the BMW M8 CS. The Club Sport model has all but been confirmed so far, BMW officials repeatedly saying more CS models will be launched in the future.

And since the BMW M5 CS has been spotted on the ring already and while the M8 also shares its underpinnings with its sedan brother, chances are this could be the real deal. These two will probably have the exact same specs, just like it is the case with the Competition versions.

BMW M2 Competition by Lightweight: Faster than the BMW M2 CS

What those specs will be is unknown so far but we’re probably going to see around 650 HP and up to 800 Nm of torque being squeezed out of the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 under the hood along with some weight saving measures.

Both the M5 CS and M8 CS will probably be sold in limited numbers for some very interesting prices.

BMW M8 Coupe with 625 hp goes for a stroll in NYC

New photos from New York City show us the BMW M8 Competition Coupe in Alpine White which proves once again that it doesn’t have to be a color that screams for attention in order to have an impressive appearance. In this case, the BMW M8 Coupe looks at home in the sunny and fairly quiet NYC streets.

Furthermore, the BMW M8 Competition Coupe gets a contrasting look. The kidneys, the air control elements on the outer areas of the front apron, the gills of the front fenders, the exterior mirrors, the rear spoiler lip, the four tailpipe trims of the exhaust system and even the model lettering on the rear, are all presented in shiny black.

BMW m8 coupe new york 03 830x553

There are also dark elements such as the standard carbon roof and large parts of the 20-inch light-alloy wheels 813 M Bicolor style. In combination with the Alpine White paint, the result is a consistent black and white look that is only interrupted by the blue of the BMW logos and the three colors of the M logos.

TEST DRIVE: BMW M8 Competition Coupe — Refined Violence

The latest photos from BMW of Manhattan show how this combination works on the streets of New York.

BMW m8 coupe new york 14 830x553

As the BMW M8 Competition is the brand’s flagship performance machine, it needs to have the biggest horsepower figure of them all and it does. The M8 Competition will use the same engine as the “standard” M8, but make 625 hp and the same 553 lb-ft of torque. That little bit of extra power is said to drop its 0-62 mph time by one tenth, doing it in 3.2 seconds.

First videos of the BMW M8 Coupe and Convertible

Pricing for the new 2020 M8 Coupe is $133,000 and $146,000 for the M8 Competition Coupe. The 2020 M8 Convertible MSRP is $142,500 and $155,500 for the M8 Competition Convertible. Pricing does not include $995 Destination.

A look into the interior shows that the BMW M8 Competition shown does not do without colors: the full-grain Merino leather in Sakhir Orange and Black brings bright color to everyday life and, together with the typical M8 elements, underlines the special character of the Vehicle. Matching the leather color, the M1 and M2 buttons on the steering wheel and the start / stop button on the center console are also in bright red.

After all, the driving performance is beyond any doubt, because the BMW M8 Competition is known to be the fastest production BMW of all time: thanks to its 625 hp V8 biturbo, the fast-switching eight-speed automatic and the traction of the fully variable M all-wheel drive xDrive can sprint from 0 to 100 in less than three seconds, and under optimal conditions there can even be a two in front of the decimal point.
